Prosthetic, Orthotic & Limb Absence Rehabilitation (POLAR) Patient Outcomes

A total of 92 persons were discharged in 2009 from the POLAR Programme.

The NRH has committed to a programme of continual review of its service delivery. Following on from reviews, it implements various improvement plans.

Average Waiting Time for Admission

The average waiting time for admission to the POLAR Programme during 2009 was 48 days for the year as a whole. However, as the year progressed, waiting time became shorter and by the last quarter 2009, the waiting time was approximately 20 days.

Improvement Patients Made in their Functional Ability During Their Stay

For patients admitted to the POLAR, a measure of independence is taken at both admission and discharge. In 2009, this measure illustrated that 71% of patients showed improvement, with a further 25% retaining their independence level.

Average Length of Stay

The Average length of stay for patients in the POLAR Programme in 2009 was 43 days.

Discharge to Home*

90% of patients were discharged to home in 2009.
